The government will provide maximum support and all necessary interventions to ensure the successful conduct of the 2026 Kandy Esala Perahera, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake said.
He made these remarks while participating in a discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat on the organization and progress of the historic Kandy Esala Perahera.
The annual Esala Perahera of the Sri Dalada Maligawa is scheduled to commence on 18 August 2026. The Kumbal Perahera will take place from 18 to 22 August, followed by the Randoli Perahera beginning on 23 August.
The final grand Randoli Perahera is scheduled to parade through the streets of Kandy on 27 August, drawing thousands of devotees and visitors from across Sri Lanka and overseas.
The festival will conclude on 28 August with the traditional water-cutting ceremony in the morning, followed by the final daytime street procession in the afternoon.
During the discussion, attention was focused on preparations for the religious festival, including coordination among relevant institutions to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of one of Sri Lanka's most significant cultural and religious events.
