A large quantity of illicit drugs seized from various parts of the country and cleared for destruction following the completion of court proceedings is being destroyed today (25) at the Wanathavillu high-temperature incineration facility.
A stock of 99 kilograms and 478 grams of heroin, related to cases concluded at the Marawila Magistrate's Court, was transported this morning from the Marawila Court Complex under the supervision of Marawila District Judge and Magistrate Gihan Basnayake.
The narcotics are being incinerated at extremely high temperatures at the specially established facility located in the Lakthowatta area of Wanathavillu.
The drug consignment was transported under tight security provided by the Sri Lanka Police and the Police Special Task Force (STF).
In addition to the heroin seized in the Marawila cases, narcotics from concluded court cases in several other courts across the island are also being destroyed at the facility today.
