The Department of Meteorology says a few showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts today.

 Showers or thundershowers may also develop at a few locations in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 2:00 p.m., while mainly dry weather is expected across the rest of the island.

Meanwhile, strong winds of 40–50 km/h are likely at times over the Northern and North Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Sea Area Forecast

For the next 24 hours, a few showers are expected in the sea areas off the coast from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be south-westerly with speeds of 30–40 km/h, increasing up to 50 km/h at times in the sea areas extending from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

Sea conditions will be fairly rough at times in the waters off the coasts from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Fishermen and naval operators are advised to exercise caution when venturing into these sea areas.
