According to the Navy, the operations were carried out as part of its ongoing responsibility to safeguard national security while supporting the Government's nationwide anti-drug initiative, 'A Nation United'.

The Navy stated that it has intensified surveillance and patrols across Sri Lanka's maritime zones, leading to the interception of several local multi-day fishing trawlers allegedly being used to smuggle narcotics into the country.

These successful operations resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of illicit drugs with a high estimated street value. The confiscated narcotics have been handed over to the relevant law enforcement authorities for further investigations and legal action.

The Sri Lanka Navy reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining vigilant maritime security operations and working closely with other agencies to prevent the use of Sri Lankan waters for transnational drug trafficking.
