Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya stressed that an efficient public sector and an accountable management accounting system are essential to ensure Sri Lanka's sustainable development as the country continues its recovery from the economic crisis.
Addressing the CMA National Management Accounting Conference 2026, organised by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA Sri Lanka) under the theme "Crisis, Stability and Growth: A Management Accounting Lens," in Colombo , the Prime Minister said Sri Lanka's path to long-term growth depends on strengthening public sector efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
She noted that while the country has made progress in restoring economic stability, it now faces the challenge of building a competitive and resilient economy. In this context, she said sound management accounting practices play a vital role in improving decision-making, ensuring the efficient use of public resources, and strengthening governance.
The Prime Minister further emphasized that accountability, transparency, and evidence-based financial management are key to supporting sustainable economic growth and rebuilding public confidence in state institutions. She also highlighted the importance of professional management accountants in helping both the public and private sectors improve performance and achieve long-term development goals.
