The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka has increased to 76,044, with the Colombo and Gampaha districts continuing to remain high-risk areas, said Community Health Specialist Dr. Prashila Samarawickrama.

According to the Dengue Control Unit, the highest number of dengue patients has been reported from the Gampaha District, with 15,910 cases recorded. Colombo follows with 15,110 cases.

Other districts reporting a significant number of cases include Matara with 5,330 patients, Kandy with 5,111 cases, and Kalutara with 5,010 cases.

The Dengue Control Unit said dengue infections are also being reported from several other districts, including Ratnapura, Galle, Hambantota, and Kurunegala.

Dr. Samarawickrama said continuous dengue prevention programmes are being carried out across the country to control the spread of the disease and prevent a possible outbreak situation.

Meanwhile, measures have been introduced to strengthen early detection, clinical management, disease surveillance, and prevention of dengue among the university community.

A set of clinical management and standard guidelines prepared by the University of Colombo was launched today, focusing on improving dengue identification, patient care, monitoring, and preventive actions within universities.

The guidelines were handed over by University of Colombo Vice Chancellor Professor Indika Karunathilake to Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Madhura Seneviratne.
