Train services at the Colombo Fort Railway Station were disrupted on Sunday after a passenger train derailed while entering a platform, affecting operations on two platforms during the evening peak hours.

The incident occurred at around 4:35 p.m. when Train No. 1164, scheduled to depart for Rambukkana at 4:45 p.m., derailed while attempting to enter the platform after arriving behind schedule. According to reports, two wheels of one carriage came off the tracks.

Railway authorities said this is the second derailment involving the same train, following a similar incident reported on July 7.

Officials are currently working to clear the derailed carriage and restore normal train operations. Railway authorities also warned that several evening office trains may experience minor delays until services return to normal.
