A fatal multi-vehicle collision in the Rassandeniya area along the Matara-Tangalle main road claimed two lives and left four others injured on Sunday evening (July 19).
According to the Matara Police, the accident occurred when a Defender luxury SUV, traveling from Matara toward Devinuwara, attempted to overtake a car moving in the same direction. The Defender reportedly clipped the car before colliding head-on with a lorry traveling in the opposite direction.
Six individuals who were inside the Defender, including its driver, sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Matara General Hospital. Authorities confirmed that two of the victims succumbed to their injuries shortly after admission. The deceased have been identified as residents of Matara, aged 33 and 36.
The drivers of both the lorry and the car involved in the crash have been arrested by the police.
