Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology has issued a Heat Advisory through its Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, warning of elevated daytime temperatures expected on July 20.

The advisory applies to the Eastern Province and the districts of Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Polonnaruwa, and Monaragala.

According to the Department, the Heat Index which reflects how hot it feels by combining air temperature and humidity is expected to reach the "Caution" level in some areas during the daytime. These conditions may pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable individuals.

The Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize the effects of the hot weather. Residents are advised to:

- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

- Rest in shaded or cool places whenever possible.

- Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day.

- Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

- Pay special attention to the elderly and people with existing health conditions.

- Never leave young children unattended inside parked vehicles.

Authorities encourage the public to remain alert and follow the recommended safety measures to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.
