The US State Department has advised Americans worldwide, especially those in the Middle East, to exercise increased caution to ensure their safety.
The department issued a travel advisory on Saturday saying due to "heightened tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation." NHK reported.
The advisory notes that US diplomatic facilities in and outside the region have been targeted.
The department warns that "Groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and/or Americans throughout the world."
US media have reported that the last time the department issued a worldwide travel advisory was in March, when the US and Israel were fiercely exchanging fire with Iran.
