Speaking on the matter, Perera alleged that the Justice Minister had failed to fulfill the responsibilities attached to his office.
The opposition has decided to move the no-confidence motion following the unrest at the Negombo Prison, which resulted in the deaths of prison officers. It argues that the minister failed to ensure the safety and security of both prison officials and inmates and did not adequately discharge his duties and accountability in relation to the incident.
The motion is expected to be formally handed over to the Speaker during the coming week.
