The Court of Appeal has scheduled August 4 and August 6 to consider a series of intervening petitions filed in connection with the writ petition submitted by former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Suresh Salley, seeking protection against arrest and detention by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).Salley filed the petition challenging any attempt by the CID to arrest or detain him.
Eight parties have since submitted intervening petitions requesting permission to present submissions before the court. The intervening petitioners include Venerable Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera and the Archbishop of Colombo, along with six other parties.
When the matter was taken up today, the Court of Appeal stated that the intervening petitions would be considered after the President's Counsel appearing for the petitioner concludes his submissions.
With the consent of the intervening petitioners, the court fixed August 4 and August 6 for the hearing of the intervening applications.
