Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has expressed his condolences following the passing of former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, widely regarded as the architect of modern Qatar.

In a message shared on his official X account, President Dissanayake paid tribute to Sheikh Hamad's visionary leadership and his immense contribution to Qatar's transformation and development.

On behalf of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka, the President extended his deepest sympathies to the current Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the members of the Qatari royal family, and the people of Qatar during this period of mourning.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who played a pivotal role in shaping modern Qatar, passed away on yesterday 12.

Following his death, Qatar's Amiri Diwan, the country's supreme administrative authority, declared a four-day period of national mourning in honor of the late former Emir.
