Sri Lanka has been ranked as the third most traffic-congested country in the world, according to the Numbeo Traffic Index by Country 2026 Mid-Year.

The latest report, published by the Serbia-based global data platform Numbeo, places Sri Lanka third with a Traffic Index score of 254.5. Only Nigeria and Costa Rica rank higher on the list.

Numbeo compiles its Traffic Index using data contributed by residents and commuters worldwide, reflecting real-life experiences of traffic congestion, travel times, and road conditions.

According to the report, the top 10 countries with the highest traffic congestion are:

The ranking highlights the significant traffic challenges faced by Sri Lanka, placing it among the countries experiencing the highest levels of road congestion globally.
