Director of Water Management of the Irrigation Department, H.M.P.S.D. Herath, stated that the country's 80 major reservoirs are currently operating at approximately 48% of their total storage capacity.
He noted that the existing water levels are expected to be sufficient to meet current demands, while emphasizing the importance of conserving water to help manage any potential impacts of prolonged dry weather associated with El Niño.
