The parliamentary Opposition has signed a no-confidence motion against Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara. The motion was signed today (July 10) in Parliament by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and a group of opposition Members of Parliament.
The Opposition’s move follows the recent, deadly unrest at the Negombo Prison. The motion contends that Minister Nanayakkara failed to uphold his fundamental responsibilities and accountability regarding the safety of both prison staff and inmates. The Opposition alleges that this critical failure in oversight and governance directly contributed to the tragic loss of life during the incident.
