The body of a 26-year-old woman has been discovered by police inside a rented house on Galkanuwa Road in the Gorakana area, within the Panadura North police jurisdiction. Authorities suspected homicide by slitting of the throat, as the body was uncovered after local residents and police broke down the door due to a strong odor emanating from the premises.
The deceased has been identified as Mannamarakkalage Naduni Sahasri Cooray, a law student pursuing her degree at a private university. Preliminary police investigations revealed that she was previously a resident of Moratuwa, had been married to a high-ranking corporate executive, and was subsequently divorced. In addition to her legal studies, she had been gaining practical experience by assisting an attorney with court proceedings.
The young woman had been living alone in the rented property, and her family members reported being unable to contact or get any information about her for approximately two days. Known to be an avid lover of pets, five small dogs were found inside the room where her body lay. Police have taken into custody two knives found near the body, which are suspected to have been used in the killing.
