A 51-year-old Maldivian national has been arrested by the Thalangama Police for allegedly sexually assaulting a 28-year-old beautician and therapist at a lodging facility (villa) in Pelawatta, Battaramulla. The suspect was taken into police custody on the 4th of this month.
According to police investigations, the foreign suspect works as a carpenter in the Maldives. He had reportedly summoned the victim to the villa where he was residing, under the guise of obtaining a massage service. Police said that while she was administering the treatment, the suspect forcibly raped her.
A team of officers from the Child and Women Bureau of the Thalangama Police has initiated a special investigation into the crime.
