Several spells of showers are forecast for the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts over the next 24 hours, while mainly dry weather is expected across the rest of the island.
The Department of Meteorology also warns of strong south-westerly winds affecting many parts of the country. Wind speeds of 30–40 km/h are expected generally, with gusts reaching 55–60 km/h at times in sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Winds may increase up to 50 km/h in other surrounding sea areas.
At sea, conditions will be very rough off the coasts stretching from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Other sea areas are expected to be fairly rough, with a few showers likely off the coast from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo.
Meanwhile, strong winds of 40–50 km/h are expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, and across the Northern, North Central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
Authorities advise fishermen and the public to exercise caution due to rough sea conditions and strong winds.
