The Court of Appeal has scheduled August 6, 2026, as the date to hear the appeal filed by former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra challenging her conviction and three-year rigorous imprisonment sentence.

Premachandra has appealed against the judgment delivered by the Colombo High Court, requesting that her conviction be overturned and the prison sentence set aside.

She was found guilty in connection with the 2015 abduction, assault and unlawful detention of a young employee attached to a shop in Dematagoda.

Accordingly, the Court of Appeal today (06) ordered that the appeal be taken up for hearing on the scheduled date.
