The death toll from the renewed violence that broke out today (06) morning at the Negombo Prison has officially risen to five.
According to the latest official reports, the fatalities from this morning's clashes include three security officers who succumbed to their injuries while trying to pacify the rioting inmates.
Police and security forces fired several warning shots in an effort to bring the volatile situation under control after tensions escalated inside the prison. Although authorities had restored order earlier in the day following Saturday's violence, fresh disturbances broke out later, prompting another large-scale security response.
