At least 20 inmates were injured following a violent clash between two groups of prisoners at the Negombo Prison, authorities said.
According to the Director of the Negombo Hospital, the injured inmates were admitted for treatment after the unrest inside the prison.
In response to the incident, authorities deployed the Police Special Task Force (STF) to help restore order within the prison. Additional security measures have also been put in place as STF personnel work to bring the situation under full control.
The cause of the clash has not yet been officially disclosed, and investigations into the incident are underway.
