The residence of Sri Lanka's indigenous Vedda community leader, Uruwarige Vannila Aththo, was damaged after a wild elephant entered the property and attacked the traditional home.
The incident caused significant damage to sections of the house, with mud walls partially destroyed. The elephant also uprooted several crops and damaged vegetation surrounding the residence.
Following the attack, members of the indigenous community gathered to assist Vannila Aththo in repairing the damaged walls and clearing debris from the property. The community also worked to reinforce the structure of the house.
Vannila Aththo was seen inspecting the damage alongside residents, who joined efforts to restore the home after the incident.
No injuries were reported. However, the incident has once again highlighted the persistent human-elephant conflict affecting communities living in areas bordering wildlife habitats.
