The case against Attorney-at-Law Rakitha Nirmala Rajapaksa, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Horana organiser Charith Wasantha Kumara Abeysinghe, and former Civil Aviation Authority Airport Director Aruna Sri Chathuranga was today postponed until 2.00 p.m. by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
The three suspects were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over allegations that they solicited and accepted a Rs. 120 million bribe from the wife of an alleged organised crime figure in exchange for providing him with favours.
When the case was taken up, Senior Counsel Ashoka Weerasuriya, appearing for the first suspect, Charith Abeysinghe, informed court that he was engaged in proceedings before a superior court and requested that the matter be taken up later. The request was conveyed through counsel Sanjaya Marambe.
Accordingly, Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama postponed the proceedings until 2.00 p.m. today.
