According to University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Kapila Seneviratne, all academic activities, examinations, and hostel facilities have been suspended with immediate effect. The university is scheduled to reopen on July 13.
Professor Seneviratne stated that the decision was made based on recommendations from Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) and Medical Officers of Health (MOHs) after several students were diagnosed with dengue while a viral fever was also reported to be spreading on campus.
He further revealed that the UGC held a special meeting yesterday with the vice-chancellors of all state universities to review the current health situation and discuss preventive measures in response to the increasing dengue outbreak.
Authorities have urged students and staff to follow health guidelines and remain vigilant until the university resumes normal operations.
