Speaking at a weekly Cabinet decision press briefing, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayathissa said that the executive's intention remains focused on restoring regional democratic processes without further delay.
Addressing questions raised by journalists regarding obstacles and political remarks made by opposing factions, the Minister brushed off concerns regarding political consolidation against the current administration. He said that despite claims of varied groups uniting under different pretexts, the political landscape remains largely unchanged, hinting that upcoming developments might even shift those alignments.
When asked about a definitive timeline, Minister Jayathissa clarified that a specific date can only be determined once the necessary legislative groundwork is completed. He said that the final timeline relies heavily on how quickly Parliament can introduce and approve the required amendments to the provincial election laws, which have historically stalled the voting process.
