The minister said the project is expected to provide a sustainable solution to controlling dengue by reducing the mosquito population capable of spreading the disease.

Meanwhile, the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) reported that the number of dengue cases recorded this year has exceeded 54,000, with a total of 54,189 cases reported so far.

Health authorities also warned that the prevailing adverse weather conditions have increased the risk of a major dengue outbreak across the country.

On Tuesday alone, 1,030 new dengue cases were reported, pushing the daily case count above the 1,000 mark.

According to the NDCU, approximately 75% of current dengue patients have been infected with Dengue Virus Serotype 2 (DENV-2), which is spreading rapidly.

The number of dengue-related deaths reported this year has risen to 31.

Health officials urged the public to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and take preventive measures as the country faces an elevated risk of dengue transmission.
