Today, Poson Peraheras are scheduled to be held from Mini Kirula Rajamaha Viharaya, Ratnawala Tapodhanaramaya, and Kondeniya Ashokaramaya in the Dickwella Police Division. Another Poson Perahera will be held tomorrow (July 1) at Sri Jayawardhana Muchalindaramaya in Walasgala.
The procession from Mini Kirula Rajamaha Viharaya is scheduled to begin at 12.00 noon. It will proceed from the temple along the Colombo–Kataragama Main Road towards Tangalle, turn at Kemagoda Junction towards Nilwella, pass the Nilwella Fisheries Harbour, continue to Dodampahala Junction, rejoin the Colombo–Kataragama Main Road, and return to the temple.
Police stated that a section of the Colombo–Kataragama Main Road between Dodampahala Junction and Kemagoda Junction will be temporarily closed while the procession is passing. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, including roads via Beliatta, the Southern Expressway, Mahawela, Pahajjawa Junction, Hadapangodella, Walasgala, Radampala, and Ratmale, depending on their destination.
In addition, traffic restrictions will also be imposed on roads in and around Ratmale and Radampala due to another religious procession in the area.
Meanwhile, the Poson Perahera at Sri Jayawardhana Muchalindaramaya in Walasgala is scheduled to commence at 10.00 a.m. on July 1. Traffic congestion and temporary road closures are expected in Walasgala, Beliatta, Dickwella, and surrounding areas during the procession.
Police have requested motorists and the public to cooperate and use the designated alternative routes during the procession times to minimize inconvenience.
