The advisory is valid until 10.30 AM tomorrow (13).
According to the Met Department, sea areas between Kankesanthurai and Kalpitiya via Mannar are expected to be very rough, with strong gusty winds reaching 60–70 km/h. As a result, naval and fishing communities have been strongly advised not to venture into these waters until further notice.
Sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Kankesanthurai via Mullaitivu and from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota are also expected to experience rough conditions, with winds reaching 50–60 km/h.
The department further warned that wave heights could rise to 2.0–2.5 metres in sea areas from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Fishermen and maritime operators have been urged to remain vigilant and closely follow future weather advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.
