According to Police, the inquiry was initiated by the Jaffna Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau after video footage of the performance surfaced on social media.
A 24-year-old resident of Udayanagar in Kilinochchi was arrested on June 2 in connection with the incident. Investigators allege that the suspect performed two songs during the event and later edited and uploaded the recordings to his social media account in a manner that glorified the banned organization.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the videos had been intentionally altered to include content supportive of the LTTE before being shared online, leading to their wider circulation.
Authorities stated that the alleged actions amount to an offence under Section 3(G) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 48 of 1979. The suspect was produced before the Chavakachcheri Magistrate’s Court on June 3 and has been remanded until June 17.
Meanwhile, Police rejected reports circulating on certain social media platforms claiming that authorities had imposed a ban on songs being performed at musical concerts and entertainment events.
Issuing a clarification, Police emphasized that such claims are false and reiterated that all public activities must be conducted in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Sri Lanka.
