The case was called before Colombo High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga. During the proceedings, Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara informed the court that a revision petition filed by the defendant had been taken up before the Court of Appeal yesterday (03), which scheduled it for hearing on June 16.
The Deputy Solicitor General further stated that the prosecution had informed the Court of Appeal that it would not lead evidence in the High Court case until that date. Consequently, he requested the High Court to postpone the case without calling witnesses for the day.
Accepting the request, the High Court Judge ordered the case to be adjourned until July 09, pending the decision of the Court of Appeal. The judge also issued notices directing the witnesses to appear before the court on the next hearing date.
The case was filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa by the Attorney General under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, charging him with the illicit acquisition of five plots of land valued at over Rs. 73 million.
