According to the latest weather advisory issued at 5:30 a.m. on June 4, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.

Meteorologists warn that heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is likely at some locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant for possible localized flooding and disruptions.

Strong winds are also expected across the island. Wind speeds of 40–50 kmph may occur over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the districts of Hambantota and Trincomalee. Other areas can expect fairly strong winds ranging between 30–40 kmph.

Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Mariners and fishing communities have been advised to exercise caution as sea conditions are expected to deteriorate in several coastal areas.

Showers or thundershowers are forecast in sea areas stretching from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Southwesterly winds are expected to prevail at speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50–60 kmph at times in sea areas extending from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai, Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.

The sea in these regions is expected to be rough at times, while other sea areas around the island will remain moderate.

Forecasters also warn that wave heights could rise to approximately 2–3 metres in sea areas from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota. Additionally, nearshore coastal areas from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle may experience wave surges reaching the shoreline.

During thundershowers, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough sea conditions can be expected, posing risks to small craft and fishing vessels.

Fishermen, naval operators, and coastal residents are advised to monitor weather updates closely and take appropriate safety measures. The public is urged to remain alert to changing weather conditions, particularly in areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas.
