Director of Irrigation (Hydrology and Disaster Management) L.S. Sooriyabandara stated that the reduction in rain has contributed to the steady decline in water levels, easing concerns over potential flooding.
According to the Department, there is currently no flood risk in any major river basin.
Sooriyabandara noted that only light showers are being experienced in parts of the wet zone, while most areas of the country are experiencing relatively dry weather conditions.
He further stated that rainfall is expected to remain at low and normal levels in the coming days. The Irrigation Department will continue to closely monitor weather patterns, although no immediate flood threats are anticipated at present.
