The Magistrate had been scheduled to deliver an order on whether the two legal professionals were required to provide evidence in connection with the ongoing inquiry.
At the previous hearing, President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Rajeev Amarasuriya, together with several other attorneys appearing on behalf of Arsecularatne and Muhandiramge, submitted that the court could determine whether the two witnesses were required to testify before the inquiry.
After considering the submissions, Magistrate Pasan Amarasena ruled that both President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsecularatne and his junior counsel, Udara Muhandiramge, should be called to give evidence before the court.
Accordingly, summons were issued directing the two witnesses to appear before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court on June 5 to provide testimony in relation to the death inquiry.
