The committee was established by the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education with the aim of strengthening medical education to better address national healthcare requirements.

Members include Professor K. N. Marambe of the University of Peradeniya, Professor A. A. Pathirana of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Professor Manuj Weerasinghe of Wayamba University, and Dr. Palitha Abeykoon, Advisor to the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health.

The panel also includes Dr. C. K. Liyanage representing the Faculty of Medicine Teachers’ Association and Navodya Marasinghe representing the Faculty of Medicine Students’ Association.

The ministry stated that the committee is expected to formulate a comprehensive national policy framework for medical education in Sri Lanka.
