Addressing a public rally in Hiriyala, Kurunegala, Rajapaksa stated that despite the absence of an election, large crowds continue to gather in support of the SLPP even under adverse weather conditions.

He said the “Aragalaya” period was marked by violence, the burning of houses and the killing of former MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala, and alleged that the promises made to the youth during that period have not been fulfilled.

Rajapaksa also claimed that rural communities are now beginning to organize against the present administration over issues including corruption, waste and economic hardship.
