The committee was appointed under the direction of the Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, with Secretary to the Ministry Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa taking steps to establish the panel in recognition of the strategic importance of strengthening medical education to meet national health needs.
Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilaka, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo, has been appointed Chairman of the committee.
The committee includes academics and experts representing several universities, the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, the World Health Organization, as well as representatives of medical faculty teachers and students.
According to the ministry, the committee has been tasked with developing a national framework aimed at strengthening and standardizing medical education in line with Sri Lanka’s healthcare and higher education priorities.
