Addressing concerns among farmers, the Deputy Minister stated that the government is fully capable of managing fertilizer-related challenges despite ongoing global uncertainties affecting supply chains. He acknowledged that apprehensions had surfaced within the farming community at the start of the Yala season but reassured that sufficient measures have been taken to maintain stability.
Minister Karunaratne further highlighted that the country currently holds adequate stocks of key fertilizer types, including Muriate of Potash (MOP) and Triple Super Phosphate (TSP), commonly known as “Mada Pohora.” According to him, these reserves exceed current demand levels, ensuring uninterrupted distribution to farmers.
The arrival of the fertilizer shipment is expected to strengthen supply further and support farmers in maintaining productivity during the ongoing cultivation season. Government authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while taking steps to safeguard agricultural outputs amid global market fluctuations.
