The suspects include 16 Chinese nationals and two Cambodian nationals who were reportedly conducting internet-based scams while residing in the country.
The arrests were made during a raid carried out yesterday (27) by the Negombo Police at a lodge in the area. During the operation, officers also seized a number of computers and related equipment believed to have been used in the незакон activities.
Following their arrest, the suspects were produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court and have been remanded in custody until April 6, 2026.
Negombo Police stated that further investigations into the incident are currently underway.
