According to Police, the 31-year-old suspect, a resident of Ambalangoda, had contacted businessmen via WhatsApp while falsely claiming to be Station Chief Indika Weerasinghe.
Investigations revealed that he used intimidation tactics to coerce victims into handing over large sums of money.
The suspect was arrested yesterday (25) near the Galanigama expressway entrance. During the arrest, officers also recovered 25.620 grams of heroin in his possession.
Police further stated that the suspect has a criminal history, including prior imprisonment for drug trafficking, theft, robbery, and extortion.
Police have identified that he targeted business owners in several areas, including Ambalangoda, Gandara, Ratnapura, Horana, Panadura, Marawila, and Trincomalee.
