The special raids and investigations programme, launched from March 20, aims to curb malpractices such as hoarding essential goods, selling above maximum retail prices, failing to display prices, and distributing expired or substandard products.
The CAA said particular attention will be given to warehouses and wholesale outlets, while gas distributors and fuel stations will also be closely monitored to ensure uninterrupted supply during the festive season.
Officials noted that the move comes amid concerns that some traders may attempt to exploit global economic uncertainties, including the ongoing Middle East crisis, by creating artificial shortages and inflating prices.
All investigation officers have been deployed for continuous duty, including weekends and public holidays, with instructions to strictly enforce provisions under the CAA Act against violators.
Consumers have been urged to report complaints related to market irregularities via the hotline 1977, while traders have been called upon to act responsibly and adhere to lawful business practices.
