After initially holding back on revising bus fares despite the recent diesel price increase, the National Transport Commission (NTC) is now set to announce a new fare structure today.
NTC Director General Nilan Miranda said the revised fares will be made public during the day, following growing pressure to align ticket prices with rising fuel costs.
The move comes after criticism over the commission’s delay in responding to the fuel price revision, which left bus operators grappling with increased expenses without a corresponding fare adjustment.
