The raid took place at a tourist hotel in the Porutota area of Negombo, which was surrounded during the operation.
The individuals had entered Sri Lanka under tourist and business visa facilities. Among them, 36 had overstayed their visa periods, while the remaining 40 had violated other visa conditions, thereby residing in the country illegally.
The detainees are aged between 25 and 35 years, including six women.
Under the instructions of Director General of Immigration and Emigration, Chaminda Pathirage, the Indonesian nationals are currently being held at the Welisara Detention Centre. Authorities have confirmed that arrangements are underway to deport them from the country promptly.
