The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) said that the printing of vehicle number plates is expected to resume within the next three months.

Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Traffic, Kamal Amarasinghe, stated that there is currently a backlog of nearly 400,000 vehicle number plates awaiting printing.

He noted that the new production process will comply with international standards.

Printing operations were suspended in April last year following the cancellation of the previous tender. As a result, the Department had granted permission for vehicle owners to display temporary number plates during the interim period.
