Colombo Central Crime Unit (CCCU) today (06) arrested a former Superintendent of Police, previously serving as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Suriyakanda Police, along with a police constable, following their summons for questioning, the police confirmed.
The arrested inspector had recently been transferred to Ratnapura Police while still holding the OIC position at Suriyakanda. Social media had widely circulated footage allegedly showing the two officers in civilian clothes carrying a firearm, linked to a suspected deer hunting incident.
An initial investigation was conducted by Embilipitiya Police, after which the OIC was transferred. Both officers were summoned to Colombo on 6 February for further investigation.
The police also noted that the OIC had previously overseen a case about a month and a half ago, involving a raid on a cannabis plantation belonging to Ratnapura District Parliamentarian Shantha Padmakumara.
