Vavuniya Magistrate has ordered the temporary closure of seven restaurants in Vavuniya town for operating under unhygienic and health-hazardous conditions.
The order was issued following inspections carried out by officials of the Vavuniya Municipal Council, including the Local Government Commissioner, Public Health Inspector, and Public Health Inspectors attached to the Vavuniya Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Office.
During the inspection, several eateries were found to be maintaining unsanitary environments deemed harmful to public health. Accordingly, the Magistrate directed that the seven establishments be closed for a period of 14 days to facilitate corrective measures.
Among the establishments ordered to close is a KFC restaurant located in Vavuniya town. Authorities stated that further action will be taken based on follow-up inspections.
