The Department of Meteorology has issued the weather forecast for sea areas around Sri Lanka for the next 24 hours, effective from 5.30 a.m. today (07).

Rain Condition:

Showers are expected at several places in the sea areas off the coasts stretching from Hambantota to Trincomalee via Batticaloa. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle during the evening or night.

Winds:

Winds will be north-easterly with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

State of the Sea:

Sea areas off the coast from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be fairly rough at times. Other sea areas around the island are expected to be moderate.

The Meteorology Department further warned that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas could be experienced during thundershowers.
