Two suspects, including a foreign national, have been arrested in connection with the possession and trafficking of a large stock of heroin, police said.
The arrests were carried out by the Kelaniya Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau last night (03). During an inspection of a suspicious motorcycle in the Hospital Road area within the Kiribathgoda Police Division, officers arrested a suspect in possession of 3 kilograms and 18 grams of heroin, along with a mobile phone and the motorcycle used for transportation.
The first suspect is a 34-year-old resident of the Kiribathgoda area.
Further questioning led to the identification of another suspect who allegedly supplied the narcotics. Acting on this information, police arrested the second suspect at a hotel located on 18th Street in the Katunayake area.
The second suspect is a 32-year-old Thai national, according to police.
Both suspects have been produced at the Kiribathgoda Police Station, and further investigations are being conducted by the Kiribathgoda Police.
