Popular Sri Lankan actor Hemal Ranasinghe was released today on a personal bail of Rs. 100,000 after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.
Ranasinghe was arrested earlier in the day in connection with an alleged assault, police said. The incident is reported to have occurred on January 8, 2026, at Havelock City.
According to police, the actor surrendered to the Wellawatte Police this morning following several summons issued in relation to the complaint. Authorities stated that Ranasinghe had previously failed to respond to those summons.
Further investigations into the alleged assault are ongoing.
