The Court of Appeal today dismissed the writ applications filed by two Buddhist monks, including Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thera, challenging the legality of a remand order issued by the Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court in connection with the placement of a Buddha statue in Trincomalee.
The order was delivered by a two-judge bench comprising the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya, and Justice Priyantha Fernando.
The petitions sought to challenge the remand order made by the Trincomalee Magistrate, who had ordered the monks to be remanded on allegations of violating coastal conservation laws related to the installation of the Buddha statue.
